A matter of the body.
In truth, nobody knows what a body can do. Ecce Homo : the body is an ulcer. Our times are full of scars and tattoos, although the gaze wich one affixes is that of the unblinking eye. As inthe middle ages, the representation of the body was only tolerated if it a``eared as shattered, fragmented, dismembered, or even stuck together in unprecedented procedures. I think the suspended body with its head bent in Romulo Royo's installation has something radically strange about it, or better said, something spectral. We must remember that for Freud, the strongest example of the unheimlich experience is that of the (re)appearance of death. Romulo Royo does not stop drawing head perphaps becausehe is assaulted by the opposing image of the headless body. It is by no means easy to escape from one's head, nor can we flee from our shadow or bodies. Footprints, faces, limits, physicality : these are inherent to the subject.
Videncia, velamiento, ceguera.
