SPECIAL LIMITED EDITIONS: HOMAGE TO GOYA COLLECTION

2023 has been a year full of important exhibitions, we have initiated many new projects that will see the light in 2024. Many were already able to visit the exhibition Luis Royo & Romulo Royo: Art Generations at the Palazzo Ducale di Lucca, where 20 pieces were debuted belonging to the new series in which the artists are working: Homage to Goya, inspired by the relationships and links that exist between the works of the three artists, and the obsessions and fantasies evident in them.

From these pieces, we selected four to make Special Limited Editions, which we launched exclusively at Lucca Comic&Games 2023 and which many of you have already purchased.

We were thrilled by the great reception and demand for these Special Limited Editions in Lucca, and now we have put them on sale on our website, as a thank you for this great year that we have been able to share with all of you, we have edited this special series on the fantastic similarities between Luis Royo and Romulo Royo with the master Goya.

El Aquelarre, Homage to Goya by Romulo Royo, Special Limited Edition based on the homonymous work by Romulo Royo, which attracted all eyes in the hall of the Palazzo Ducale di Lucca, not only for its large format but also for its striking character of intense greens and the delicacy of the figures dressed in Goyaesque headdresses and garments, with an essence of the Romantic or Pre-Raphaelite paintings. This Limited Edition, measuring 61.0 x 84.0 cm / 24.02 x 33.07 in has a print run of 150 laminae, on 340 gms/m2 watercolor paper, numbered and signed by the artist. Throughout his works we find endless threads and connections with a love for fantasy that makes these common links palpable, not only in terms of ideas and themes for their artistic pieces but also in the way they have managed to spread their works throughout the world through their prints and engravings, allowing the general public to enjoy their art.

La Linterna de la Noche - Homage to El Aquelarre by Goya, is the second Special Limited Edition of 61.0 x 84.0 cm / 24.02 x 33.07, made from the original work of Luis Royo, La Linterna De La Noche, Homenaje a "El Aquelarre" by Francisco de Goya. Both in the pictorial work and in his engravings, Goya's universe is impregnated with the magical and mysterious world of witches, just as, from another perspective, it constantly appears in the work of Luis Royo and Romulo Royo. While in Goya this esoteric world is shown anchored to terrifying female characters, in the Royo's trajectory they appear fusing this occult world with an enigmatic beauty. But the ancestral power of the feminine world, sprouts and is shown equally vehement in his works through the brushstrokes in the two sides, and thus link the mystery through the centuries. There are 150 printings on 340 gms/m2 watercolor paper, each of them numbered and signed by the artist.

Tiempo y Navajas de Iris - Homage to la Romería de San Isidro by Goya, reminds us of the figures in Luis Royo's originals in III Millennium and Subversive Beauty, with their piercings and inlays and perfect anatomy. The pilgrims seem to be watching the girl as if she were humanity's only salvation. She, stripped of all her clothing, kneels before them. The aesthetics, the intentions, the staging and their protagonists may be very different after so many years of distance between the artists, but the halo that surrounds them, the dreamy, abstract or somber vapours that swirl in their images, and that dark and provocative nuance that seems to emanate directly from that harsh land of origin, continues to surface and link the eternal obsessions that seem to produce that arid terrain that saw them all born. With a size of 60 x 42 cm / 23.62 x 16.54 in and a print run of 90 copies, this Special Limited Edition will also be numbered and signed by the artist. Also printed in ten inks on 340 gms/m2 watercolor paper.

Encuentro Sensual - Homage to La Maja Desnuda by Goya, is the latest Special Limited Edition, based on the original work of the same name by Luis Royo and Romulo Royo. This fun scene shows us a post-apocalyptic future, reminiscent of previous works from Malefic Time. This time an android stops to admire Francisco de Goya's La Maja Desnuda, whose canvas is already torn and worn, but whose beauty endures through the ages. Copies up to print run 90/90 are available in size 42 x 60 cm / 16.54 x 23.62 in, numbered and signed by both artists. Even with almost 300 years separating them, in Aragon, born in the same arid, sober, stubborn and extreme climate of northern inland Spain, we find these plastic attractions and constant obsessions in the work of the genius Francisco de Goya as well as in the work of Luis and Romulo Royo. Nothing could be more enlightening than Goya's lucid phrase: "Fantasy, isolated from reason, only produces impossible monsters. United with it, on the other hand, it is the mother of art and the source of its desires".
