Laberinto Gris presents our new exhibition, where the images of Luis Royo open a path in which the legendary converses with the pop, and where every gesture and every line rewrites the iconography of the present, elevating its protagonists to the status of myths that breathe within the modern imagination of pop culture.
Laberinto Gris presents “Pop Myths: Luis Royo”, an exhibition that delves into the visual heart of the fantastical universes that have shaped contemporary popular culture. In a world where houses like Marvel and DC engage in an almost mythological rivalry, an essential figure emerges: the artist who imagines, interprets, and brings to life the characters that inhabit these narratives.
Luis Royo, with his own language and unmistakable vision, has helped shape the aesthetic of the hero, the heroine, the villain, the villainess, and all those beings that have taken root in our collective memory.
The artist behind the myth
Before a character becomes an icon, there is a creator who gives it form. Luis Royo is one of those artists capable of breathing soul into fantasy. His line, charged with epic power and sensuality, transforms archetypal figures into presences that are personal yet instantly recognizable and magnetic.

Since 2017, he has worked together with Yamato and DC to create three-dimensional figures that have been released in the U.S. market with great success. Since then, he has occasionally taken on the interpretation of many other figures from the universe of pop heroines, offering his own vision and volumetric approach.

From Elektra (Marvel Universe) to various icons such as Batgirl, Catwoman, or Harley Quinn (DC Comics), Royo even reaches into entirely different worlds such as Tinker Bell (Disney), Betty Boop (Paramount Pictures), and Taarna (Heavy Metal), as well as aesthetics far from Western tradition, like Major from Ghost in the Shell (from manga to anime). All of them radiate sensuality, strength, and above all, a deeply personal dimension.
