In greek mythology, the Gorgons were both ruthless and protective beings. Daughter of Forcis and Ceto, Medusa was feared by some and reviled by others for the healing and poisonous powers of her blood. Her tragic end at the hands of Perseus left her blood to fall into the Red Sea, creating beautiful corals that remind us of her garments in the piece.
