Royo has made the myth of Beauty and the Beast one his main motifs, taking it from horror to lyricism. In any case, regardless of the theme, his characters always seem to be halfway between the epic and the erotic. Many of these works have been published in different countries and languages in books by the artist including Malefic, Secrets, Visions, etc.

"It is a lofty church with frescos decorating the ceilings. It takes me an instant to work out where I am. I have seen it in books. They call it the Sistine Chapel. Before me, a huge fresco on the wall behind the altar, a huge canvas of a wall, shows me the Final Judgement. He is by my side. His voice alters the rhythm of my heartbeat. I still want to hate him but at the same time I realize that it was always the voice of my solace. Feelings surface, once more.
“A master’s hands, Luz,” he starts to say slowly, “painted these pictures. A master that gave form to God instead of men and saints. He defied and ridiculed the Church when he was at the height of his power.”
He points to a figure with an outstretched arm".
